DJ Nicholas completes degrees, preparing 6th studio album
Gospel recording artiste DJ Nicholas recently completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree at Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, USA. Next year, he intends to pursue a graduate degree.
In an interview with the Jamaica Observer on Friday DJ Nicholas explained the decision to pursue higher education.
“I completed my AS (associate of science) degree in 2018. After that I went back and did my AA (associate of arts) degree so I could get into a bachelor’s programme. It took about six years to complete, because I did it part-time. I did some classes on campus and some online,” DJ Nicholas shared.
Asked how he was able to juggle studies, with being a father, husband and maintaining a music career, he said: “It does take a lot of knowing what to prioritise at what time to juggle everything I do.”
While pursuing his studies, DJ Nicholas released two singles late last year. In September he released
Christ a Mi Life, which is produced by Touched by an Angel. The song is featured on a compilation called
The Trilogy.
“On Christ a Mi Life, this is me trying to be creative with the words I use to praise God. I don’t like to say what everyone else is saying. So, instead of saying give God glory, praise the Lord, I said: ‘To the height a the sky, God praise up deh to the height a the sky,’ ” said DJ Nicholas.
A month later he released Prayer Meeting, which is a co-production between DJ Tropical and J Crazy.
“Prayer Meeting was inspired by praying with my wife and some of our friends over the phone. We had an amazing time in prayer as we could feel the conviction of God and a charged atmosphere. After this I heard a beat from a song by Ryan Mark called Jackpot that I liked. The producers reached out to me and sent me the same beat. I went to the studio and the song came quickly. The idea came that nothing is hotter than a charged prayer meeting. This is also a scripture in Acts 16 about Paul and Silas praying and singing hymns until the prison doors were opened,” DJ Nicholas explained.
He also shared that the response to both songs has been positive, and he hopes to include them on his sixth studio album, which he plans to release later this year.
“I have not finalised the title of the album nor the release date. What I can say is the title will be consistent with my loud/shout themes, and Prayer Meeting will be one of the tracks on it. I also try to collaborate with one American gospel artiste on each of my projects,” said DJ Nicholas.
The artiste is known for the hit songs Back 2 D Owner, Holy Ghost Gym, Divine Mathematics, and
Things Already Betta featuring Judith Gayle.
