WATCH: Samuda speaks on tragic death of three children in Walkerswood fire
ST ANN, Jamaica — Member of Parliament (MP) for St Ann North East, Matthew Samuda called an early morning blaze that killed three children on Sunday “truly heart-breaking” as he extended his support to the grieving community.
Speaking at the site of the tragedy in Walkerswood, St Ann South East, Samuda explained that one of the victims attended school in his constituency. He maintained that the community was tight-knit despite political boundaries.
“I’ve been in contact with the prime minister, MP for the area Lisa Hanna, Minister Dana Morris Dixon — all the arms of the state to provide the necessary support are already mobilised, but for right now we are purely focused, with the councillor for the area and of course the mayor, to provide emotional support.”
Reports are that the fire began sometime after 2:00 am and claimed the lives of a boy and two girls.
