Zone lead in St James FA/Sandals up for grabs
The lead in Zone B of the St James Football Association/Sandals Resorts International Major League will be up for grabs today with the playing of two games involving three of the top four teams in the group.
Three points separate the top four teams with Green Pond SC, who lead with nine points, hosting second-placed Cambridge FC who are tied on seven points with Montego Bay Boys Club.
Fourth-placed Flankers FC, who are on six points after winning their first game last week, upsetting the previously unbeaten Green Pond SC 3-0, take on last-placed Norwood Strikers, who are yet to open their account.
Green Pond were sailing along, winning their first three games before they were beaten by Flankers FC who, up to then, had drawn their first three games. They will hope to rebound against Cambridge FC, who are also coming off their first loss of the season as well.
Cambridge FC won their first two games before they were held 1-1 by Flankers FC and then lost 1-0 to Montego Bay Boys Club last week.
Green Pond SC lead all teams in scoring with 11 goals in their first three games and will hope to get back to scoring ways against one of the better defences in the zone, with only three goals conceded.
Garth Bromwell, Devoi Douglas and Renaldeno Wilson have combined for eight of Green Pond SC’s goals and are expected to lead the attack today.
Davian McLean scored the competition’s only hat-trick in their opening game but has not added to his tally since then and will hope to get back to scoring ways today.
Based on their showing last week, Flankers FC will start as favourites against a Norwood Strikers team that has conceded a league-leading 11 goals and should chalk up their second win in a row.
