Green Pond seek to increase lead in St James FA/Sandals league
ST JAMES, Jamaica — Green Pond SC could increase their lead in Zone B of the St James Football Association/Sandals Resorts International Major League on Friday when they take on Montego Bay Boys Club at the UDC Field, starting at 3:30 pm.
Green Pond SC leads the zone with 12 points, three more than second-placed Flankers FC while Montego Bay Boys Club is in third place on eight points.
The Gregory Daley-coached Green Pond have dominated the zone and, except for a 3-0 loss to Flankers FC, have had their way so far. However, they will face a Montego Bay Boys Club team enjoying their best form in years.
Boys Club have won two games, doubling the total they won in the previous two seasons and are coming off a 2-2 draw against Heights FC on Sunday when Rainnar Barnes scored both goals.
The Boys Club’s defence will have to try and cope with the league’s top scorer Garth Bromwell who has four goals and Devoi Douglas who has scored three times already.
Meanwhile, Reggae Youths and Lilliput Rovers are tied for the lead in Zone A on eight points, after playing out a 2-2 draw at Spot Valley High on Sunday, one point ahead of third-placed Wadada United FC.
A week after they came from behind to draw with defending champions Granville United, Reggae Youths had to scramble to salvage a point and remained at the top of the points tables, on goal-difference, ahead of Lilliput Rovers.
Amara Reid scored a first-half double for Lilliput Rovers giving them the lead in the 13th minute and scoring a brace in the 42nd minute.
Meanwhile, Oliseh Haye gave Reggae Youth a fighting chance by scoring in the 30th, which was followed by Natoniel Wilson’s 56-minute goal, which earned the team a point.
