A classic opener
The Jamaica Classic Car Club (JCCC) held their first outing for 2025 at Hope Botanical Gardens, St Andrew, on Sunday, January 19.
“The meet went great. It had a late start, but people came out and supported it. In all, a really good day,” Naresh Potopsingh, president, JCCC, told the Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto magazine.
The JCCC has been holding monthly meets for a while now to help foster the classic car community and encourage a connection with the public at large.
January’s opening meet presented a wide range of traditional, modern, and future classics for the Sunday afternoon crowds at Hope Gardens to browse at will.
Potopsingh indicated there were more than 80 cars out on display.
“We saw a lot of friends of the club, some new faces, and some young persons, which was great. Overall, we had a great meeting, great turnout, a lot of cars, a lot of people, so we’re very happy about that,” he said.
Potopsingh is part of the younger generation that has been a part of the administration club. He took over in February 2024 from then president, Jason Lawson.
While he didn’t achieve everything he planned, Potopsingh is more than happy with the goals that were met as the JCCC heads for their 2025 annual general meeting.
“We did grow a little bit. We’re still working on the official membership list. We visited some new venues, and we did manage to bring back people who were long-time members. So, overall, yes, most of what my administration wanted to do was done.”
Potopsingh said there was a lot of behind the scenes work done as well to ensure the health and longevity of the club.
“We want to continue to grow the club and attract younger members, which both have been happening, so it’s been going well,” he said.
The JCCC will head to St Ann next month for their annual participation in the orchid show put on by the Ocho Rios Orchid Society.
