JPL Golden Boot race heats up
ST ANN, Jamaica–The race for the Golden Boot in the Jamaica Premier League is heating up after three players took their scoring tallies to double figures in the 21st round of games which ended on Thursday.
Mt Pleasant FA’s Shaquiel Bradford and Arnett Gardens’ Warner Brown both scored in their teams’ wins over Vere United and Humble Lion respectively, reaching10 goals, as they join Montego Bay United’s pair of Shaniel Thomas and Brian Brown.
Cavalier FC’s Jalmaro Calvin leads with 11 goals.
Mt Pleasant FA leads with 52 points, eight more than Montego Bay United on 44, Arnett Gardens are third with 42 points, followed by Portmore United with 35 points, Cavalier FC 34 points and Waterhouse with 33, rounding out the top six.
On Thursday, Bradford scored for Mt Pleasant FA, who beat Vere United 4-1 at Drax Hall, to extend their record winning run to 12 games.
Kyle Ming gave Mt Pleasant FA the lead after three minutes but Robino Gordon equalised for Vere United in the 25th minute.
Bradford then restored Mt Pleasant FA’s lead in the 36th minute and Sue-Lae McCalla, who was scoring in back-to-back games, added a third in the 57th minute and Jahmari Nolan came off the bench to score a fourth in the 80th minute.
Second half substitute Giovanni Taylor scored a double in three minutes to lead Arnett Gardens to a 5-1 humbling of Humble Lion at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
Chavany Willis wasted no time in opening the scoring after just a minute and Brown then added a second in the fourth minute as they led 2-0 at half-time.
Jaheim Thomas converted a penalty in the 50th minute as Arnett Gardens extended their lead to 3-0 before Taylor grabbed his brace in the 75th and 78th minutes.
Stephen Barnett scored an 84th minute consolation for Humble Lion.
