Tyrice Taylor narrowly misses national indoor record in men’s 800m
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Tyrice Taylor of the University of Arkansas just missed breaking the Jamaican national indoor men’s 800m record on Saturday when he won the men’s invitational race in a personal best one minute 46.62 seconds on the second day of the Tyson Invitational at the University of Arkansas.
Taylor just missed the one minute 46.61 seconds record set in 2023 by Tarees Rhoden and moves up to number three on the Arkansas all-time list and 13th on the NCAA rankings.
He improved on his previous best of one minute 46.93 seconds set on the same track two weeks earlier.
Machaeda Linton of Louisiana State University (LSU) continued her upwards trajectory when she set a new lifetime best 3.57m to win the women’s triple jump, moving into fourth place all time on the LSU list and sixth in the NCAA.
It was Linton’s first triple jump contest of the season and she broke her previous best of 13.22m set last year when she attended William Carey University.
Richelle Stanley of the University of Kansas jumped a personal best 12.33m and Celine Riddle of Barton County College jumped 12.06m.
Nia Robinson of the University of Arkansas was sixth in the women’s triple jump invitational with 13.15m and Rhianna Phipps of the University of Nebraska was eighth with 13.00m.
Apalos Edwards of the University of Arkansas was second in the men’s triple jump invitational with 16.33m.
Brandon Lloyd of Arizona State was second in the men’s shot put, throwing 19.03m with Ralford Mullings of the University of Oklahoma third with 18.91m.
Raymond Richards jumped an indoor personal best 2.23m for third in the men’s high jump invitational, Romaine Beckford was fifth with a season’s best 2.20m and Christoff Bryan cleared 2.10m.
Daniella Anglin of the University of South Dakota placed fourth in the women’s high jump with 1.70m.
At the Tiger Paw Invitational at Clemson University, Luke Brown of the University of Kentucky jumped a season’s best 16.29m for second in the men’s triple jump while Shantae Foreman of Clemson was fourth in the women’s invitational with 13.57m.
Demar Francis of Baylor University ran a season’s best 20.79 seconds for second in the men’s 200m at the Jarvis Scott Invite at Texas Tech.
National Junior College leader Bovel McPherson of New Mexico JC lowered his season’s best to 45.93 seconds when he placed second in the men’s 400m.
Shaemar Uter of Texas Tech was sixth with 46.99 seconds and Francis placed 10th with 47.30 seconds before anchoring their men’s 4x400m relay team to the win just ahead of Baylor.
Fabrienne Foster of the University of North Texas threw a personal best 18.76m, second best ever in her school’s history to win the women’s weight throw B section.
Kobe Lawrence of the University of Oregon was second in the men’s shot put with 18.74m while Shamar Reid of South Plains JC threw a National Junior College leading 18.13m.
Trezeguet Taylor of North Texas had a good weekend, running a personal best and school record 7.42 seconds in the women’s 60m and was second in the 200m B section with a life time best 24.30 seconds.
Calisha Taylor of Baylor was fifth in the women’s 400m with a personal best 54.03 seconds.
NCAA Indoor finalist Zane Palomino of Southern Miss won the men’s high jump invitational at the Music City Challenge at Vanderbilt University with 2.11m.
Tafada Wright of Mississippi State was second in the women’s weight throw with 18.99m and fourth in the shot put with 14.30m.Altwayne Bedward of Troy University was third in the men’s shot put invitational with a personal best 18.26m and Kay-Lagay Clarke of the University of Louisiana was third in the long jump with 5.62m; her teammate Mark Daley was fifth in the men’s 200m in 21.47 seconds.
