Fabian M Thomas launches his first poetry and spoken word collection
Jamaican transformational trainer/facilitator and poet Fabian Thomas will host the launch of his first collection of poetry and spoken word, the solace of sound in the Museum Seminar Room, at the Mico University on Thursday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m.
The launch heralds Thomas’ emergence as a ‘not-so-new voice’ adding a thread to the tapestries of poetry and spoken word, fusing the influences of Jamaica and the rest of the world. In an arresting potpourri, he offers varying flavours for the palette of his readers, sweet, tart, spicy, and even bitter, as he explores matters related to the heart, the head and the soul. In the book’s foreword, internationally-acclaimed writer, poet and essayist Lorna Goodison invites readers to “…tune into the words of this fabulous storyteller…” to “…receive something rare and…be blessed.”
An EP of selected poems from the collection will also be released during the launch. Thomas is a Calabash Writers Workshop Fellow and has had his work published in more than a dozen collections and anthologies. In 2018, Thomas launched his first self-published book entitled New Thought, New Words, a collection of gratitude verses, affirmations and spoken word. His first children’s book (illustrated) Djembe was released in February 2022 and Tribal Elements (A Tribe Ting, Volume 1), a chapbook of original writings by members of his performing arts collective Tribe Sankofa was launched on April 23, 2022 as part of the collective’s 10th Anniversary celebrations.
In addition to writing, he is a trainer/facilitator, adjunct lecturer, performing arts specialist and a life, corporate and creative coach.
