Green Pond, Cambridge seek revenge in Sandals Major League return games
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Green Pond SC and Cambridge United will both seek revenge today when they take on Flanker FC and Montego Bay Boys’ Club, respectively, in return-round St James Football Association/Sandals Resorts International Major League contests.
Zone B leaders Flanker FC beat Green Pond SC 3-0 in their previous meeting this season and are two points better than their opponents going into today’s game at the Flankers Community Centre.
Cambridge United are in third place and are hoping to reverse their 0-1 first-round loss to Montego Bay Boys’ Club when they meet at UDC Field.
In the first round, Flanker FC had surprised then high-flying Green Pond. It was Flanker’s first win of the season and they have since won the next four heading into this afternoon’s clash.
Flanker FC have outscored opponents 12-0 since drawing their first three games of the season. They will come into this encounter on a positive roll against a Green Pond team that has only won one of their last three games.
If Green Pond SC are to win today, Garth Bromwell, the league leader with five goals, will need to step up, along with Devoi Douglas, who has scored three times.
Tevin Fuller, Massiah Clarke, Keniou Gram and Jevon Walker have combined to score nine of Flanker FC’s 14 goals.
One point separates the teams in the game at the UDC Field where both are trying to keep in touch with the leaders.
Cambridge United are on 13 points and Montego Bay Boys Club on 12. If there is a winner today, that team could move close to a top-two spot, depending on the result of the game at Flanker.
