Tajay Gayle breaks long jump meet record at Gibson McCook Relays
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Tajay Gayle broke the men’s long jump meet record at the 48th Gibson/McCook Relays, winning with a season best 8.34m (-0.3m/s) on Saturday at the National Stadium.
Gayle, the former World Championships gold medal winner, moved up in the world rankings to number two behind Italy’s Mattia Furlani, 8.37m, as he broke Nicholas Gordon’s previous record of 7.95m set in 2015.
Shawn-D Thompson was second with a season’s best 7.88m (-0.8m/s) while Aubrey Allen was third with a wind-aided 7.69m (3.3m/s).
Tissana Hickling won the women’s long jump with a season’s best 6.61m (0.6m/s), beating Canniga Powell who had a personal best 6.06m (1.7m/s) and Guyanese Analisa Redmond who was third with 5.70m (0.7m/s)
