Flanker, Reggae Youths into St James/Sandals Major League semis
Reggae Youths and Flanker FC booked their places in the semi-finals of the St James Football Association/Sandals Resorts International Major League after comfortable return-round wins at the weekend.
Reggae Youths blanked outgoing champions Granville United 4-0 in Granville on Sunday to return to the top of the points tables in Zone A after Flanker FC had slammed second placed Green Pond SC 5-1 at Flankers on Friday.
Reggae Youths lead Zone A with 15 points, one more than second-placed Wadada United who completed their fixtures on 14 points after being awarded points after their opponents Bogue FC could not field enough players for their game at the Mount Salem Community Centre.
Lilliput Rovers are next on 13 points with a game in hand this coming weekend against Reggae Youths.
Flanker FC secured the top spot in Zone B as they are on 21 points, well ahead of Green Pond SC who are on 16 points and will need a point from their game against Cambridge United to take the other spot.
On Friday, Jevon Walker scored a brace as Flanker FC beat Green Pond for the second time this season, netting in the eighth and 30th minutes while Theo Shaw, Reynaldo Irvin and Tevin Fuller also got on the score sheet.
Renaldeno Wilson scored Green Pond SC’s lone goal.
At the UDC field, Junior Morgan’s 23rd minute goal carried Montego Bay Boys Club to a 1-0 win over Cambridge United while on Saturday, Heights FC and Norwood Strikers played out a 1-1 draw.
On Sunday, Reggae Youths cruised to an easy win over Granville United who have conceded 10 goals in their last two games played.
Sebastian Robinson scored an eighth-minute penalty to get the scoring started, Denardo Kerr got a second in the 51st minute when his shot went in off the inside of the right upright.
A second penalty, taken this time by Natoniel Wilson in the 78th minute, made the score 3-0 before Anthony Gooden added a fourth in the 83rd.
