Cocktails With – JANEL JOLLY
Fashion designer and owner of Jae Jolly
Do please share the deets on your outfit.
I’m wearing one of my favourite pieces from a new collection I’m working on which will be launched soon. It’s a fringed dress which was handwoven to create a colour blocked stripe pattern and inspired by pieces from a past collection “Miraflores”.
How would you describe your style?
Elegant, feminine yet fun and unique.
What are your handbag must-haves?
Supergoop resetting sunscreen, my favourite scent (which is currently) Acqua Di Parma ‘Luce Di Rosa’, Fenty Lip Gloss, Mac Lipstick and a Kodak 35mm disposable camera because I’m obsessed with the look of film photos.
What’s it like seeing someone in your design?
What I look forward to the most when designing a collection, is that initial reaction when someone tries on a piece they love; there’s this excitement almost like a kid in a candy store. I love creating designs that help women embrace their beauty and confidence.
How long have you been designing?
I launched Jae Jolly in 2010 but started designing pieces for myself from about 2003.
What has been your most memorable experience as a fashion designer?
Seeing Hollywood actress Gabrielle Union wearing Jae Jolly!
Which A-lister would you like to see in a Jae Jolly design?
Zoë Kravitz… She’s simply gorgeous.
When not designing where can one find Jae Jolly?
I’m a hills and beach baby, so Negril is my go-to for a weekend getaway and when I need to recentre you’ll find me at Strawberry Hill getting a massage and reading a good book.
What are you drinking this evening?
Appleton Estate 12-year-old rum with coconut water and a squeeze of lime. Not the most girly drink of choice I know (lol) but I’m not a fan of overly sweet cocktails and the hydration from the coconut water leaves you feeling hungover-free the next day.
Which song is currently playing in your head?
Be the Good People by The Mighty Tiny and The Many Few.
Netflix ‘n’ Chill or a night out on the town?
Both! I’m always down for a great film and a good bottle but I also love getting dressed up for a night out on the town.
Which countries are on your 2025 travel itinerary?
Spain and Mexico.
What was the last book read?
Ikigai: The Japanese Secret To a Long and Happy Life by Francesc Miralles & Hector Garcia. I aspire to live to 100 and this book is definitely one of those books you give a second read.
Finally, what’s your personal credo?
Live in the present and enjoy every moment.
