Cabinet approves Sexual Harassment Tribunal
MINISTER of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia Grange has announced the members of the Sexual Harassment Tribunal.
Grange made the announcement at the Post Cabinet Press Briefing at Jamaica House on Tuesday.
The tribunal will be chaired by retired Court of Appeal Judge Ferdinand Algernon Smith.
It will have two deputy chairs: Indera Persaud and Karen Campbell-Bascoe.
The other members of the tribunal are Khadrea Folkes, Debby-Ann Brown-Salmon, Camille Lee, Karen Thompson-Wilson, Clare Pamela Miller, Kevel A Campbell, Donald Roberts, Shaneek Rose Clacken, Junior A Latibeaudiere, Meric Dale Walker and Rev Dr Devon Merrick Dick.
The tribunal is established under the Sexual Harassment (Protection and Prevention) Act to hear and determine complaints and to make awards.
Grange said all workplaces in Jamaica should by now have their sexual harassment policies in place. The policies must be brought to the attention of each worker, client, student, resident, ward, inmate, patient or member, as the case may require. Any workplace or institution that fails to implement such a policy — which should outline a process for reporting and resolving a complaint of sexual harassment — could face sanctions.
