Mt Pleasant open up double-digit lead in JPL
Mt Pleasant FA have opened up a double-digit lead in the Jamaica Premier League after Sunday’s 3-0 win over Dunbeholden FC in their third round game played at Dunbeholden.
Mt Pleasant’s 21st win in 28 games saw them improve to 68 points, 11 more than second placed Arnett Gardens who take on Racing United on Monday night.
Nicholas Nelson and Daniel Green, with goals in the 23rd and 28th minutes respectively, gave Mt Pleasant a 2-0 lead at halftime before substitute Devonte Campbell added a third goal in the 87th minute.
Fresh from their tough Concacaf quarterfinal first leg game against Inter-Miami on Thursday, defending champions Cavalier FC came from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw against Waterhouse FC at Drewsland stadium.
Javane Bryan shot Waterhouse into the lead in the 45th minute before Jalmaro Calvin came off the bench to score his 14th goal of the season in the 69th minute to earn his team a point.
Portmore United were also held to a 1-1 draw by slumping Tivoli Gardens at Ferdie Neita Park and are on 44 points, one behind Cavalier FC. Portmore took the lead in the 55th minute through Jermie Lynch but substitute Nickalia Fuller equalised for Tivoli in the 62nd minute.
Vere United swapped foot-of-the-table status with 10-man Humble Lion after a 2-0 win. It snapped Vere’s 11-game winless run dating back to early January. Matt Ludford gave them an early lead in the fifth minute and Denzel McKenzie got the second goal in the 59th minute. Humble Lion’s Cleo Clarke was sent off in the 69th minute after being shown a second yellow card.
