Nine JPL players earn Reggae Boyz call-up for Gold Cup qualifiers
Nine players from the Jamaica Premier League have been called up to the Reggae Boyz 23-man squad for their Concacaf Gold Cup qualifiers against St Vincent and the Grenadines on March 21 and 25.
Head coach Steve McClaren says February’s international friendlies against Trinidad & Tobago gave him the confidence to introduce the local based players into the team.
Arnett Gardens striker Warner Brown, who has 18 goals this season in the JPL, is among the nine which also includes Cavalier’s Richard King and Christopher Ainsworth and Mount Pleasant FA’s Sue Lae McCalla, Fitzroy Cummings and Kyle Ming.
Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey, Brentford defender Ethan Pinnock, Leicester City forward Bobby Reid and Charlton Athletic’s Kaheim Dixon are among the England-based players in the squad.
The first leg will take place on March 21 away at Arnos Vale Stadium with the second leg set for March 25 at Sabina Park.
The winner will qualify for this summer’s Concacaf Gold Cup in the USA.
