NMIA fire to be investigated – PACKAL
KINGSTON, Jamaica — PAC Kingston Airport Limited (PACKAL), operator of the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston, says an investigation will be launched into the cause of a fire that caused an evacuation of the airport Friday night.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at PACKAL, Sitara English-Byfield, said Saturday that normal operations resumed following the fire that occurred in the luxury Club Kingston area of the terminal.
PACKAL said all flights are now operating as planned.
“We recommend that all passengers still verify their flight status directly with their airlines, as there may be other schedule adjustments unrelated to the incident,” English-Byfield said.
PACKAL also thanked all emergency response teams, whose “swift and professional actions ensured the safety of all persons.”
The operator stated that the incident demonstrated the effectiveness of its emergency protocols and the
professionalism of its staff.
