Spirit of St Elizabeth: Zoe Summers’ Garden Part 2
Style Observer Gardening is back in Red Hills inside the garden of Zoe Summers, managing director of Heather Laine. Summers rarely spends the majority of her days indoors. When you have a patio surrounded by a bountiful collection of 50 plants, why would you deny yourself the pleasure of working and relaxing in nature? Little wonder Summers references her garden as a haven.
“My garden is really our ‘living space’ except for sleep. We eat, lime and relax outside in the day and in the evenings. It is my personal space for meditation and a mental reset. It’s just peaceful,” Summers said.
For Summers, caring for a new plant is a joy and a privilege she treasures. It is her fervent belief that anyone can cultivate and experience the same joy and reward with patience and consistent care.
“The benefits of gardening and having a garden are tremendous. Start with what you like, and how much time and space you have available. Get advice from your local plant shop. Prepare to lose plants but be open to learning. Be patient and get help if needed,” Summers advised. “Look at the type of plants that do well in your area. Try to get everyone at home involved and get ready for the blessings.”
