#Champs2025:Petersfield High’s Lawrence leads Class 1 boys long jump
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Petersfield High’s Svein Lawrence led the qualifying for Tuesday’s final of the Boys Class 1 long jump after he produced a wind-aided 7.23m (3.5m/s) effort in the qualifying round of the 115th staging of the ISSA/Grace/Kennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championship at the National Stadium.
The COCAA Western Champs silver medalist needed two jumps to achieve the automatic qualifying mark and was followed by Cornwall College’s Kenomar Jones, who had a wind-aided 7.21m (2.1m/s) mark on his only attempt, with Jamaica College’s Michael Andre Edwards next with 7.16m (-0.3m/s).
Jamaica College’s Jaivar Cato- 7.02m, Kingston College’s Anthony Hall (6.89m), and Calabar High’s Romaine Lewis (6.89m) are also through to the final.
Two medal favourites failed to get into the final 12.
Ricoy Hunter of STETHS, bronze medalist last year, did not advance as he had one legal jump of 6.32m (-0.4m/s) 16th overall, and Kingston College’s Shamir Kelly who came into the championships with a leading jump of 7.45m was 15th overall with a best of 6.37m.
