#Champs2025: Munro’s Smith aims to defend shot put title
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Munro College’s Javontae Smith looks well set to defend his boys’ Class 2 shot put title as he needed just one throw in Thursday morning’s qualifying event to advance to the finals set for later in the day.
Smith threw 17.14m on his first attempt, well over the 15.30m qualifying standard and is expected to challenge Ralford Mullings’ meet record 19.99m set in 2019.
He won the COCCA Western Champs with 19.34m just over a month ago and is expected to go further.
St Catherine High’s Adrian Daley also needed one throw to get into the final-17.10m, and they will be joined by Calabar High’s Kamari Kennedy- 16.00m, Edwin Allen High’s Clinton Baker and another Munro College thrower Brandon Lawrence- 15.40m.
