#Champs2025: Calabar’s Gordon rises to occasion in Class One 110m hurdles
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Calabar High’s Shaquane Gordon rose to the occasion when it mattered most to deliver a gold medal in the boys’ Class One 110m hurdles, one of the most highly anticipated events on the final day of the 115th ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the Nationals Stadium.
Gordon, who was third last year, ran 13.52 seconds (-3.6m/s) to beat defending champion Daniel Clarke of Kingston College who ran 13.54 seconds in a close contest while Shakir Lewis of Jamaica College was third in 13.85 seconds.
To add even more intrigue to the event both Gordon and Clarke were disqualified in Friday’s semi-finals but were later reinstated after protests were lodged.
Johnathon Clarke of Kingston College took the Class Two 110m hurdles gold medal with 13.63 seconds (-1.9m/s), well ahead of St Jago High’s Marquies Page who ran 13.71 seconds while Christian Wallace of Jamaica College took the bronze with 13.84 seconds.
Calabar High took the “quinella” in the Class Three 100m hurdles final with Ronaldino Barnett winning with 12.92 seconds (-2.0m/s) and his teammate Jordan McBean taking silver with 13.10 seconds with Jhaidon Dawkins of Kingston College third with 13.38 seconds.
