No need to rewrite agreement with Cuba
Dear Editor,
Why is there the need to waste time and effort adjusting the medical mission agreement that has been working well for years? Just because US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says so?
Where is the concern about the labour laws in the US — our farmworkers, for example — and in all the countries that send exports? This includes those that grow bananas under slave-like conditions in Central America. And what of environmental laws that are also flouted?
This is all about attacking Cuba, and any country that wants to remain friends with Cuba, and indeed Venezuela.
Moreover, how inappropriate to have agreed to meet and then have a press conference with Rubio before agreeing on a common position with other Caribbean leaders who came to Jamaica.
In my opinion, Prime Minister Andrew Holness is a complete sell-out and his love-fest press conference with Rubio was quite sickening. What a contrast to other leaders in the Caribbean and even more so now in Africa, with Namibia imposing visas on Americans to make things more balanced.
