Leon Lynch looms large at Sandals Dunn’s River
Driven by Sandals Dunn’s River’s insistence on providing guests with exceptional service, Leon Lynch, a member of the resort shop team, recently received one of the resort chain’s highest and most prestigious honours — the Diamond Team Member of the Year Award.
Lynch’s story with Sandals began in 2018, inspired by a family member who saw his potential. Like many new team members, he first considered the dining room — a department known for its high-energy environment.
But as he quickly learned, carrying trays wasn’t quite his forte.
“I just couldn’t get the hang of it,” he said, laughing. “Then one day a friend in the resort shop needed help taking stock. I gave him a hand, and the rest is history.”
Lynch started out in the Hospitality Training Programme (HTP), soaking up every lesson and experience. After completing the programme, he ventured into different jobs before fate brought him back to Sandals.
“I met my amazing Sandals resort shop manager one day, and she told me that Sandals Dunn’s River would be reopening soon and that I should apply. I did, and I got the job.”
Lynch credits much of his success to his family, who provided him with a strong foundation. “As a child, I was an A student, but somewhere along the way I fell off. My mom, grandma, and uncle were always my biggest supporters, pushing me to do better no matter the circumstance.”
That support propelled him, and Sandals became the place where he rediscovered his drive.
“Coming to Sandals was when I truly realised what I wanted from life. Sandals Corporate University (SCU) has given me an opportunity to develop myself, and for that, I’ll always be grateful.”
For Lynch, the best part of his job is the human connection.
“My favourite thing has to be guest interaction,” he shared. “It feels good to know I’m part of something big. When guests walk into the resort shop, I set the tone for their experience. A simple conversation can change their entire day, and I take pride in that.”
His enthusiasm and dedication led to him being honoured with the Diamond Team Member Award.
But for Lynch, it’s not about the accolades — it’s about giving his best every single day.
“At Sandals Dunn’s River, we are all hard-working. We don’t just meet guest expectations, we exceed them. I just wake up every day and put my best foot forward,” he said.
Beyond his daily duties, Lynch gives back through Sandals Foundation.
“How lucky am I to work for a company that prioritises my community. I donate my time, whenever I can, because it gives me a chance to make a real impact,” said Lynch.
His passion for service even earned him the Sandals Foundation Award in a previous year — an achievement that means just as much to him as the Diamond Team Member Award.
His advice to his fellow team members?
“Go above and beyond while being yourself. You don’t have to work in the bar to offer a drink to a guest, and you don’t have to work in housekeeping to notice small details that make a guest’s stay better.”
Lynch’s future with Sandals is bright, and he has his sights set on new challenges.
“With Sandals, growth is inevitable. I know there’s space for me in guest services, and that’s where I see myself in the future. One day I’ll be a guest services manager, working to make our guests’ experiences even better,” he said.
For now, Lynch is enjoying helping to make Sandals Dunn’s River an unforgettable place for every guest who walks through its doors.
