Curfew imposed in community following businessman’s death
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A curfew has been imposed in the Retreat community and surrounding areas in St Mary as police fear reprisals following the shooting death of popular businessman Samuel “Fraughty” Dixon on March 24.
Police sources told the Jamaica Observer that intelligence gathered revealed threats of retaliation for Dixon’s killing, leading to increased tensions in the affected communities.
Acting Superintendent for the parish, Anthony Wallace, said the curfew aims to reduce criminal activities in the area.
“We are working to minimise violence and to make an impact on the stolen motor vehicles syndicate that operates in the Retreat area and also penetrate migrant criminals operating in the space,” Wallace said.
The communities under curfew include:
– Retreat Content
– Davis Town
– Pondside
– Charles Town
– Liberty Estate Housing Scheme Phase 1 & 2
– Valley Bush
– St Mary Country Club
– Ross Common
– Three Hills
– Industry Pen Housing Scheme
