Honour Prince to lead home rivals in Prince Consort Stakes
The Road to the Triple Crown series of races continues for colts and geldings tomorrow with the 32nd running of the $1.75-million Prince Consort Stakes, a Graded Stakes event over 7 furlongs (1,400m).
The Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a look at the six runners and their chances of winning.
1. BRAHMA BULL: (3 ch c by Sunshine N Shadow – Esperanza) – Brahma Bull has shown improvement in his recent performance, winning his second start over 6 furlongs (1,200m) on March 8 by a length and a quarter. Although his final time of 1:16.2 wasn’t impressive, he’s expected to be a live shot in this race.
2. MR LEE: (3 gr c by Spieth – Kipling Weekend) – Mr Lee is not expected to win this race, and his chances seem slim.
3. I DREAM AGAIN: (3 b c by Soul Warrior – Lady Najariya) – I Dream Again dominated his debut over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m) on March 5, winning easily by 9 lengths in 1:08.0. With improvement expected, he could put in another strong performance.
4. PRINCE ROY: (3 b c by Here Comes Ben – Princess Shine) – Prince Roy came on strong in his recent performance, finishing second in the Sir Howard Stakes over 6 furlongs on March 15 by ¾ length. He’s expected to appreciate the extended trip and could take home the win.
5. HONOUR PRINCE: (3 b c by Bern Identity – Awesome Lucy) – Honour Prince showed his class and talent by winning the Sir Howard Stakes on March 15. If he can replicate his performance, he could lead home the rivals once again.
6. STRONG MIND: (3 b c by Casual Trick – Charming Beauty) – Strong Mind was never a factor in his recent performance, finishing seventh by 8 ½ lengths in the Sir Howard Stakes. However, he’s expected to run a much better race this time around. Note: Tongue-tie off.
7. MARK MY IDENTITY: (3 ch c by Bern Identity – Sweet Like Sugar) – Mark My Identity gave a good account of himself in the Sir Howard Stakes, finishing fourth by 2 ½ lengths. However, he’s not expected to trouble the main contenders.
8. RUNAWAY STAR: (3 ch c by Northern Giant – Runaway Gal) – Runaway Star released his maiden tag with a dominant 7 ¼ length win over this distance on March 29 in a smooth 1:28.2. He’s not to be denied a chance in this race.
