Cavalier eye Women’s Premier League lead
Cavalier could take over the lead in the Jamaica Women’s Premier League in the points table if they can beat Federal United in the first game of a double header at The UWI-JFF/Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence, starting this afternoon at 4:00.
With defending champions and leaders Frazsiers Whip, on 18 points, not in action this round, Cavalier (16 points) will go into top spot with a win.
Cavalier, who are coming off a big 7-0 whipping of Springers United last weekend, have won their last five games and have given up only two goals in the process. They are to face a Federal United team with one win, which came in the boardroom.
Federal United will need to start scoring goals, as they have netted just once in their last three games which have all been losses. Federal will face the second-best defence, at least on paper, in the competition.
Shanel Spence, who has scored 10 goals so far, and had two against Springers United last weekend, is expected to lead the Cavalier SC team, along with Tatyana Polack and Kersha Thomas.
In the second game of the double header at the venue, UWI Women will start favourites against Proven Girls as they seek to stay in touching distance of the top four.
Third-placed Arnett Gardens will be going after a third-straight win when they host Springers United at the Anthony Spaulding Complex, starting at 3:30 pm.
Since losing to UWI Women, Arnett Gardens have beaten Proven Girls and Los Perfectos on the trot and will hope for another three points against Springers United.
In the Manchester derby at Mile Gully Community Centre, Los Perfectos will hope to remain in the top four and will go after maximum points away to Mile Gully FC. The Mile Gully team is coming off its first win of the season, beating Proven Girls last week.
WiFi United are to travel to Jarrett Park to face Real MoBay AFC, with one point separating the teams in the tables in what could be a close contest.
Real MoBay are yet to lose at home, scoring seven of their 10 goals so far at Jarrett Park, and will hope to use home field as an advantage.
