Veteran deejay Lappaleng releases debut EP Mobay Giant
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Years after he made his recording debut, dancehall deejay Lappaleng has released his first body of work.
Titled Lappaleng: The Mobay Giant, the seven-song EP was released on March 22. Now based in Birmingham, England, Lappaleng provided an insight into the project.
“The EP features various genres, including dancehall, reggae, soul and gospel. I decided to make it a more versatile project because my intention is to make a worldwide impact with the project. It has something for everyone,” Lappaleng told Observer Online recently.
The Montego Bay-born artiste feels the project has enough legs to create an impact.
“I do not doubt that this EP is going to be a success; it’s only been out a week now, and I am getting a lot of great feedback about it,” said Lappaleng.
Some of the songs featured on the EP include Pray, Keep on Rolling, History and Bad Gyal Whine.
Lappaleng’s real name is Karl Lloyd Wallace. He began his musical journey in the 1980s and relocated to England in 1990.
“Since moving to England, I’ve done some work with Jet Star, but other than that, I’ve been producing my music. It’s been an interesting journey; sometimes it’s good, but other times it’s very frustrating because it’s not easy to make a name for yourself as a dancehall act in England,” Lappaleng shared.
Lappaleng continued, “This project is a culmination of all the years I’ve dedicated to the development of my craft as a deejay. It’s a celebration of all that I’ve experienced and achieved since those early days when I began my career in Montego Bay. Through hard work and determination, I became the top deejay in the city before I migrated from Jamaica.”
